Difference between Yukata and Kimono

Yukata vs Kimono

Yukata and Kimono are traditional Japanese clothing. Most of the people just know the names 'yukata' and 'kimono', but hardly know the actual difference between the two.

A yukata is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton or synthetic fabric, and unlined. Yukata are worn by both men and women.

The basic difference between a yukata and a kimono is the fabric. Yukata comes in cotton fabric while a kimono dress comes in silk fabric. As such, it can be seen that the yukata is worn during the summer season and to Summer Festivals (Natsu Matsuri 夏祭り).

It is recommended to wear a Yukata in Singapore due to the hot summer climate all year-round.

For Natsu Matsuri 2015 in Singapore, it is likely to be held in the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in August. You can dress up in a Yukata to the event and enjoy the Japanese culture, food, games and dance!
